Damage has also been reported in some ornamental plant species outside the EU. The virus may be spread through plants for planting, soil, water and contact. There is no evidence for vector transmission. The origin of the virus is unknown and EMCV appears to have a limited distribution in the EU; its impact is expected to increase if it were to be spread further.
