Pest Risk Analysis for Tuta absoluta

The tomato leaf miner (Tuta absoluta) originally from South America has spread widely since first being reported outside the continent in Spain in 2006. It is now a significant pest in tomato growing areas of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. Recent findings show its spread continues, especially in Asia and Africa, and interceptions in the tomato trade highlight its movement into the EU.

For Ireland, concerns arise from the pest's establishment and ongoing management in glasshouses in Northwestern Europe, including the UK. A rapid risk assessment has been undertaken to assess the potential impact on Ireland and to suggest phytosanitary measures to reduce the risk of entry into Ireland.
