Plan for an EPPO PRA on Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (Tobamovirus - ToBRFV)

Description

The Panel on Phytosanitary Measures at its meeting in 2019-03-20/22 identified possible priorities for PRA. ToBRFV was the highest priority for an EPPO PRA in 2019.

Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (Tobamovirus - ToBRFV) was first identified on tomatoes in Israel and Jordan and outbreaks have recently occurred in Germany, Italy, Mexico and the USA. The virus causes major concerns for growers of tomato and capsicum as rugose symptoms, deformation and irregular maturation make the fruits unmarketable. Therefore, ToBRFV was added to the EPPO Alert List in January 2019 (https://www.eppo.int/ACTIVITIES/plant_quarantine/alert_list_viruses/tomato_brown_rugose_fruit_virus).

The tentative dates are 2019-11-18/21 in Israel.
